Watch this program online at http://video.pbs.org/video/143... http://www.pbs.org/frontline/s... '>http://www.pbs.org/frontline/s... Should we have the right to end our own lives? FRONTLINE explores this question and follows ALS sufferer Craig Ewert as he debates the morality—and confronts the reality—of choosing to die before his disease further ravages his body, in "The Suicide Tourist" airing Tuesday, March 2 at 9PM on PBS (check local listings).Do we have the right to end our lives if life itself becomes unbearable, or when we enter the late-stages of painful, terminal illness? The questions, debated for centuries, have only grown more pressing in recent years as medical technology has allowed us to live longer lives, and several U.S. states have legalized physician-assisted suicide. With unique access to Dignitas, the Swiss non-profit that has helped over one thousand people die since 1998, Academy award- winning filmmaker John Zaritsky offers a revealing look at a couple facing the most difficult decision of their lives—and lets us see for ourselves as one Chicago native makes the trip to Switzerland for what will become the last day of his life.Watch "The Suicide Tourist" on air and online beginning Tuesday, March 2 on PBS (check local listings) and at http://www.pbs.org/frontline/s... This special brought me to tears. Craig was such a wonderful man.

For you idiots that complain about this business, stating they kill people that were simply depressed: wrong. You obviously didn't watch the documentary. EVERY physician assisted suicide needs to be approved by an impartial physician not employed by them. And to say a business shouldn't make money off of this - you also think it's wrong to sell water? Medication? Food? Businesses make BILLIONS off of those essential products.

DartmouthAlum96I think g. w. bush's way is better don't you think, after all dropping bombs on the innocent is the christian republican way, you know, more bang for your buck.I'll bet if assisted suicide became legal in all 50 states, christian republicans would complain about the tax. So, I say make Assisted Suicide legal because the pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, doctors, nurses, health care providers in general are making a mint off people's long suffering.

@AceofWWIIwhats the point of living if you are like this guy and have 0 quality of life and no chance of making a recovery.... I suppose its god's will that you suffer a horrible death... yeah, don't feed me that bullshit. This is a conversation where "god's MASTER plan" has absolutely no bearing. I have no problem with people practicing religion but when it comes to issues like this religion needs to butt out because it RARELY produces rational decisions.

One of the best documentary's I have ever seen.

I'd like to thank Craig and his family for their remarkable gift to us in this documentary. He's incredibly brave and I hope his journey is a little easier next time around.I don't understand how anyone who has actually seen this could use the word "murder" anywhere in their comment. Empathy?

My father died of ALS it was terrible. All US states should have suicide assistance in cases like this.

" several U.S. states have legalized physician-assisted suicide. "Several states? Try only 2 idiot. With all the hoops you have to go through for physician-assisted suicide in those ONLY 2 states it is hardly an option.

Zungerable (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
That's nice, but for those of us who don't believe in God, or his plans, the option to commit suicide painlessly should exist. I'm very happy you still enjoy life, and I hope that continues until the end. But for many people it doesn't, and no amount of wishing can change that.
