Actually, indoors or out, the altitude (and its effects) is identical -- it's not as if the air is less thin indoors!But it IS all about optimal recovery -- it has everything to do with what Tegenkamp said about conserving energy so as to stay healthy and well-rested to get those "very fine increments" of improvement from each training session.

to optimally recover being outside in altitude has a massive impact on your cardiovascular system and spending time in doors is better than out
