I have done this many times and not once have been over the top - always through the tunnel. The passes have always been closed as most trips are between November and March.I would like to go to Switzerland in the summer!As I am usually heading towards Poland or Germany, I take the Little St. Bernard Pass!

Did you take the A2 after crossing the border? On our trips to Italy, mostly on the return to Hamburg, we usually took the whole A2 from Chiasso to Basel. One stop we always did was at the rest area in San Gottardo Sud/Stalvedro, near Airolo. Crossing the Gotthard-Tunnel was, because of how long it is, always a small torture though, and in retrospect, I would have like to cross the Gotthard-Pass as well. |
